Itineraries

Day 1

Lisbon

Reception at the airport. Transfer to hotel and check-in. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2

Lisbon

Full day tour to visit the center of Lisbon, including the old Jewish quarter of Alfama, São Jorge Castle and visit the interesting Lisbon Synagogue. Heading to Belém, a must stop in Lisbon due to its rich heritage, Visit to the ex-libris Jeronimos Monastery, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Tower of Belém. Dinner in a traditional restaurant with a Fado show.

Day 3

Lisbon / Sintra / Cascais / Estoril / Lisbon

Visit to the Pena National Palace. Visit to the old Jewish quarter whose first records date from the 12th century. Free time for lunch. After lunch, we head to the city of Cascais to visit the Espaço Memória dos Exílios da Fundação D. Luís I where you can find, in a permanent exhibition, part of the history of WWII refugees brought to the region by the European conflict in the 40's.

Day 4

Lisbon / Tomar / Lisbon

Trip to Tomar to visit the oldest synagogue in Portugal, the building of which was ordered by the King’s brother, Infante D. Henrique. Visit of Christ's Convent once headquarters of the Knights of the Templar. Return to Lisbon

Day 5

Lisboa / Coimbra / Porto

Visit to the historic center and the university of Coimbra. In the afternoon transfer to Porto and check in at the hotel.

Day 6

Porto / Belmonte

Tour to the historic center with visit to the Clérigos Tower, the 18th century Cathedral, São Bento Station and Ribeira district. Visit to the Kadoorie Mekor Haim Synagogue and the Jewish Museum of Porto.In the afternoon visit to one of the Port wine cellars with wine tasting and a short cruise on the river Douro.Trip to Belmonte and rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7

Belmonte / Trancoso / Guarda

Trip to Trancoso where we’ll meet a local guide for a visit to the city, where there once lived one of the largest Jewish communities in Portugal, and the Isaac Cardoso Jewish Interpretation Center which includes a Sephardic Synagogue (Beit Mayim Hayim Synagogue).After lunch trip to Bemonte. Tour in Belmonte, a small town where a Jewish community still lives.

Day 8

Belmonte / Vilar Formoso / Almeida / Belmonte

Trip to Vilar Formoso to visit the museum. Trip to Almeida, a municipality close to the border to which Vilar Formoso. Return to Belmonte

Day 9

Belmonte / Castelo de Vide / Marvão / Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel and check out.In the afternoon trip to Castelo de Vide and check in the hotel. Brief tour of Marvão, a lovely town close to Castelo de Vide and a visit to the Castle where you can enjoy an amazing view. Followed by a trip to Lisbon. Rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 10

Lisbon / Évora / Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel. Évora, the jewel of the “crown” with its beautiful narrow streets and main square. Visit to the historical center, the Bones Chapel and the cathedral. As in almost all towns and cities in Portugal, Évora had a fairly large Jewish community in the 16th century. Walking around the city it is possible to see traces of the Jewish presence. Free time for lunch and enjoy this lovely town. In the afternoon, return to Lisbon.

Day 11

Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Transfer to Lisbon Airport.
